Addressing gender-based violence in academia using the 7P framework

Dedicate a day to enhancing your institutional responses to gender-based violence with the GenderSAFE workshop, “Addressing Gender-Based Violence in academia using the 7P framework”. This five-hour session will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding and practical tools to address gender-based violence holistically in their institutions. Following the presentation of the 7P model – Prevalence, Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, Provision of services, Partnerships, and Policies, attendees will learn to develop action plans tailored to their institution’s specific needs. Suitable for gender equality officers, HR personnel, and (….,) this workshop combines presentations with interactive exercises, fostering a collaborative approach to refining and implementing policies addressing gender-based violence. This training promises to be an experience that bridges the gap between knowledge and action. 

Learning objectives

  • Gain a common understanding of concepts related to gender-based violence and its impact in academia.
  • Demonstrate the existence of this phenomenon in research and academia
  • Present the 7P model of UniSAFE (Prevalence, Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, Provision of services, Partnerships and Policies) which represents a holistic approach to address gender-based violence in higher education institutions and research organisations.
  • Share inspiring practices for setting up and implementing institutional policies to address gender-based violence in academia adopted by European higher education institutions and research organisations along the 7 Ps.
  • Enable practical application through a hands-on session where participants develop tailored strategies and action plans to effectively address gender-based violence within their own institution.

  • The training is addressed to those at the beginning stages of creating and implementing a policy framework to address gender-based violence in academia.  As seats are limited, priority will be given to individuals at the initial stages of developing and implementing policy to address gender-based violence within their institution and correspond to the profile of participants. Preference will be given to individuals from countries participating in Horizon Europe, with special consideration for registrants from ‘Widening countries’ as defined by the European Commission. We kindly ask for your understanding as we strive to include a diverse range of participants.

Panagiota Polykarpou is a Consultant at Yellow Window Belgium where she specialises in promoting gender equality, diversity, and inclusion within organisations. She has a background in Business Management (University of Cyprus) and Social Innovation & Management (Vienna University of Economics and Business).
