GenderSAFE has established a Community of Practice (CoP) designed to promote exchange and mutual learning among participants from different universities and research organisations on institutional policy frameworks addressing gender-based violence.
Putting the zero-tolerance policy framework into practice!
On 14-15 October 2025 the GenderSAFE CoP gathered for a second in-person meeting in Prague. Coming from all over Europe, professionals from diverse institutions, roles, and countries covened with a shared goal: prevent and address gender-based violence in research and higher education through a zero-tolerance policy framework.
The focus was placed on the operationalisation of the zero-tolerance policy framework, bringing in perspesctives from organisations having tested it, and from each of CoP’s circles (legal, intersectional power relations, Central and Eastern Europe, students, and national authorities).
Participants also actively engaged in discussions to improve their own institutional policy, looking into specific topics, such as risk screening as a means of prevention, risk assessment as a means of protection, consent and abuse of power, setting professional boundaries, avoiding conflicts of interest, as well as navigating GDPR in responses to gender-based violence. They were also introduced to GenderSAFE’s Institutional Assessment Tool, to be launched on 26 November, and tested by CoP members.
Many thanks to all our CoP participants for setting time aside to participate in this second in-person meeting! Such enthusiasm and eargerness to see institutional change happen rendered the meeting inspiring to all!
